Mechanical Fire Engineer – Building Services Full Time

A well-established consulting engineering firm is seeking a Mechanical Fire Engineer to join its Building Services division in Durbanville. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated engineer with experience in fire engineering design within a consulting environment, working on a diverse portfolio of commercial and industrial developments.

The successful candidate will be involved in the full project lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through to project management and close-out, delivering compliant and innovative fire engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver projects through Stages 1–6, including concept design, detailed design, tender documentation, project management, and project close-out.
• Design fire protection systems for a variety of building services projects.
• Conduct fire risk analyses.
• Design active and passive fire protection systems.
• Ensure all fire engineering designs comply with relevant regulations and industry standards, including NFPA, BS, SANS, and ASIB requirements.
• Perform engineering calculations for:
• Automatic sprinkler systems
• Smoke detection systems
• Evacuation systems
• Smoke ventilation systems
• Hydraulic fire system design
• Gas suppression systems
• Prepare technical reports, financial reports, and tender documentation.
• Plan, coordinate, and manage projects from inception through completion.
• Prepare rational fire designs where required.
• Liaise with clients, architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Conduct site inspections and provide construction support during project execution.

Experience on projects such as:

• Commercial office developments
• Retail centres
• Hospitals
• Hotels
• Multi-storey residential developments
• Data centres
• Warehouses

Minimum Requirements

• BTech, BSc, or BEng in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years’ consulting engineering experience within Building Services.
• Professional registration as Pr Eng with Engineering Council of South Africa.
• Strong understanding of fire engineering principles and applicable South African and international standards.
• Experience managing projects throughout the full design and construction lifecycle.
