Senior Professional Structural Engineer – Consulting Industry Full Time

RPO Recruitment’s client, a reputable consulting engineering firm in Johannesburg is seeking a highly experienced Senior Professional Structural Engineer to join their team. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and proven leadership in delivering complex structural engineering projects.

This role requires a seasoned professional who is able to manage design work, guide junior staff, engage effectively with clients, and oversee multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities:

• Lead conceptual and detailed structural design for complex projects
• Deliver efficient, practical structural solutions and verify designs with software and hand calculations
• Support departmental planning, budgeting, and resource allocation
• Prepare high-quality technical reports and provide expert technical input
• Review and take responsibility for work done by junior staff
• Present technical work to clients and stakeholders
• Assist with bid preparation and develop commercial project management awareness
• Allocate tasks and oversee project teams
• Identify opportunities for additional work and advance specialist technical expertise
• Supervise site inspections and ensure compliance with specifications
• Maintain quality assurance across project stages
• Coordinate with sub-consultants and support senior management
• Communicate effectively with clients and manage multiple projects
• Prepare variation orders, assess contractor claims, and verify invoices
• Provide cross-disciplinary technical support to other departments

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution
• Registered Professional Engineer with ECSA
• At least 10 years of relevant structural engineering experience
• 2–3 years of experience after obtaining professional registration
• Strong technical writing skills and ability to prepare high-quality reports
• Professional presence with strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Solid understanding of project finances, including budgeting, forecasting, and invoicing
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
