Contracts Manager – Tailings Dam | Construction Industry Contract

A leading construction and engineering organisation is seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to join their team on a major tailings dam project in Newcastle.

The ideal candidate will have direct tailings dam experience. However, candidates with strong and relevant experience in large-scale civil, mining, earthworks, dams or related infrastructure projects will also be considered.

The position will initially be offered on an approximately 14-month contract, with the possibility of a permanent appointment for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the overall contract and ensure successful project delivery.
• Oversee construction activities and ensure work is executed according to project specifications, programme and quality requirements.
• Manage subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
• Monitor project progress, programme and contractual deliverables.
• Manage contractual requirements, variations, claims and associated documentation.
• Ensure effective cost and commercial management throughout the project.
• Coordinate with the client, consultants, subcontractors and other project stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
• Identify and manage project risks and potential contractual issues.
• Monitor resources, productivity and project performance.
• Ensure that construction activities are aligned with approved drawings, specifications and project requirements.
• Drive the project towards successful completion within the agreed programme and budget.

Minimum Requirements

• Relevant Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related qualification.
• Proven experience working as a Contracts Manager on major construction projects.
• Direct tailings dam experience is highly preferred.
• Relevant experience in dams, mining infrastructure, earthworks, large-scale civil construction or related projects will be considered.
• Strong knowledge of construction contracts and commercial management.
• Experience managing subcontractors, site teams and project stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of project planning, cost control, quality and health and safety requirements.
• Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a demanding site-based environment and meet project deadlines.

The successful candidate must be able to take ownership of the contract, lead project teams effectively and operate confidently within a challenging site-based environment.
