Commissioning Manager (Electrical EPC Projects) Full Time

RPO Recruitment’s client, a leading construction company in South Africa is currently looking to hire a qualified and experienced Commissioning Manager who can join their successful team in Johannesburg as soon as possible. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing the commissioning activities for electrical EPC projects with a strong focus on PV, Wind, BESS, Transmission Lines, and HV Substations. 

The position will be site-based during commissioning phases and office-based in Johannesburg during project planning, preparation, and coordination periods.

Requirements:

• BSc/BEng/BTech or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
• Certification in project management (e.g., PMP or PRINCE2) is advantageous
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in commissioning management roles on electrical infrastructure projects, preferably in renewable energy, BESS, and grid infrastructure
• Proven experience commissioning HV/MV substations, renewable power plants (solar/wind), BESS, and transmission lines
• Strong understanding of electrical protection schemes, SCADA, communication systems, and grid compliance requirements
• Familiarity with SANS, NRS, IEC standards, and relevant grid codes (e.g., Eskom Grid Code)
• Experience coordinating with Eskom, municipalities, and OEMs for grid integration and testing
• Proficient in interpreting electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and control logic
• Strong project management and leadership skills
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively to remote project sites
• Experience with SCADA and energy management systems commissioning preferred
• Knowledge of construction and commissioning management software/tools
• Working knowledge of SHEQ practices in the energy sector
