Chief Geologist – Mining Industry – R1.5mil – R1.3mil Full Time

RPO Recruitment’s Client is urgently seeking the expertise of an Chief Geologist in the Northern Cape. The Chief Geologist will be responsible for overseeing all geological, exploration, and grade control activities, ensuring that geological data and interpretations are accurate, timely, and integrated into mine planning and production. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of ore body modelling, resource estimation, and geotechnical analysis, coupled with strong leadership and team development capabilities.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the geology team across various projects and sites
• Design and oversee geological exploration programs and strategies
• Interpret geological data to identify and evaluate mineral deposits
• Supervise drilling operations, sampling, and core logging activities
• Ensure accurate geological modelling and resource estimation
• Collaborate with mine planning, production and engineering teams to integrate geological data
• Prepare and review technical reports for internal and external stakeholders
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, consultants, and joint venture partners
• Implement and promote the use of advanced geological software and technologies
• Monitor geological risks and recommend mitigation strategies
• Develop and enforce geological procedures and quality control protocols
• Foster a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement
• Manage geological budgets and ensure cost-effective operations
• Mentor junior geologists and support their professional development

Requirements:

• BSc Honours Degree in Geology (NQF 8)
• MSc Degree in Geology (NQF 9) would be an advantage
• SACNASP & GSSA registration
• Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive geological experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
