Assistant Resident Engineer – Consulting Industry Contract

RPO Recruitment’s client, a multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking an Assistant Engineer’s Representative to support the delivery of a 12-month Labour-Intensive Construction (LIC) bridge project in the Eastern Cape. Accommodation will be provided, and approved travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Engineer’s Representative with supervision and contract administration for LIC bridge works
• Oversee daily site activities, including quality control, quantity verification, and record keeping
• Review drawings, method statements, and HSE documentation
• Coordinate with inspectors, survey teams, and materials testing personnel
• Support stakeholder engagement and ensure compliance with LIC methods
• Contribute to progress reporting, certification inputs, snagging, and project close-out

Requirements:

• BTech/BEngTech or National Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognised South African institution
• Labour-Intensive Construction unit standard (NQF Level 5, SAQA-accredited) qualification
• ECSA registration as Pr Tech Eng or Pr Techni Eng
• Minimum of 4 years’ post-graduate site experience, including at least one completed bridge construction project in a lead or representative role
• Full-time site presence for the project duration
• Reliable, organised, proactive, and able to work independently with strong communication and reporting skills
